Station No. 82 was based off of the original prototype design developed by SCNA for the City of North Port. The prototypes were easily modified to incorporate a Police substation while still retaining the hardened exterior shell that will withstand over category 3 winds. The prototype was given a face lift in order to fit within the Spanish Floridian aesthetic which the City envisions as its new standard with respect to all future civic construction projects. This station will also incorporate many sustainable elements in an effort to begin tracking their civic construction projects toward the Florida Green Building Coalition Standards. Some of the green improvements include a rainwater harvesting system, water conserving fixtures, efficient lighting, and low/no VOC finishes. SCNA and the City are currently working together to begin design on station No. 84 based on this upgraded prototype.
