Town of Wrightsville Beach, NC Public Safety Facility

The public safety facility's site was selected to provide adequate street access for the Fire and Police Departments as well as set up a campus-type relationship with the existing Town Hall. This site was selected as a result of an in depth study of multiple site possibilities. Coastal climate and potential for flooding required that the building be elevated above flood level with the exception of the Apparatus Bays. The main portion of the facility stands on piers at 20’ above sea level. The exterior is designed to match the coastal aesthetics of the area with large overhangs, lap siding, and a hipped roof. The Fire Department is equipped with 3 double stacked drive-through bays, internal integrated training platforms and facilities, Administrative space, 10 individual sleep rooms and additional facilities necessary for full-time operation. The police department will have ample space for admin, investigations, records and evidence storage, patrol, and holding facilities which are accessed via a secure elevator. The departments share a large Training Room and Conference Room which is centrally located.

This facility will include high-efficiency lighting on the interior and exterior as well as recycled construction materials throughout. A high-efficiency HVAC system will also be incorporated.
