Vinton Fire Rescue EMS Headquarters

The Vinton Fire & Rescue Department, along with the Vinton First Aid Crew makes up what is combined into the Public Safety Department. The existing facilities were represented by a two-story, 1976 fire station on one side of the site and an early twentieth century building used by the First Aid Crew on the opposite side of the site. One of the challenges of the project was to accomplish all demolition, renovations, and additions while both buildings were occupied and remained in operation throughout construction. After extensive planning and programming, the decision was made to combine all public safety into one building, capable of being zoned into separate areas. The new 12,000 square feet First Aid Building was built in the existing parking lot area. The new and old buildings were joined by a new two and one-half story tower. SCN-Architects served as the design consultant for the local firm, Hughes Associates Architects.
