This station was designed for a small coastal town to upgrade their existing facility which was no longer adequate. The station was kept minimal while still addressing the needs of the department. The new facility houses 2 back-in bays with accommodations to allow for future drive through capability when the adjacent property is acquired. The rest of the facility offers multiple offices and records areas, dayroom and kitchen facilities, an exercise room, and dorm facilities for crew members.
The exterior is simple in nature with material choices fitting with the local architecture but designed to be durable and easily maintainable. The exterior walls and glazing are designed to be impact resistant in order to withstand the occasional hurricane or severe storm but also be attractive in nature.
The site is minimal with staff parking and drives only and minimal landscaping. This was due to the size of the lot available. The Town took the approach to keep the station close to the center of Town not just for response time but also in an effort to begin developing a civic campus. This station is the first step in that direction.
