Due to recent annexation by the City of Gastonia, the city needed to provide local fire protection to the new neighborhoods quickly in order to comply with state requirements and to preserve their insurance and accreditation ratings. To meet their aggressive schedule, Stewart Cooper Newell proposed designing several prototype stations, thus saving the City money in design fees and construction cost. The three new prototype stations have 3 drive through apparatus bays, a large kitchen that connects to the day room, individual sleep rooms, conference rooms for training classes, and offices for administrative staff.
