Erwin, NC Volunteer Fire Department Headquarters

After attending one of Ken Newell's seminars regarding designing fire stations, the Erwin Volunteer Fire Department contacted Stewart Cooper Newell About working with them to design the renovations and additions to their existing station. We worked closely with the design committee discussing what they wanted in the new addition and what they wanted accomplished with the existing station. After several meetings we came up with a design that minimized the size of the addition and best reused the space within the station. The addition includes sleep rooms, a day room, a large training/ community room and kitchen. Inside the existing station we will create new offices and administrative areas. For the exterior, we attempted to match the brick so that the addition did not stand out by taking design elements from the new municipal building to blend the station into the block.
