Chesterfield County, VA Fire Station No. 21

Chesterfield County, VA hired Stewart Cooper Newell Architects and ACA Architects to develop a prototype fire station that could be rebuilt throughout the County. Expandability was a major consideration during the design of the building. Nearby wetlands on the site of Station 21 had a major impact on the design and configuration of the floor plan and its ability to be enlarged in the future. SCN-Architects & ACA Architects were able to successfully fulfill the department’s specific programmatic needs as well as maintain the station’s expandability. Station 21 includes an open floor plan with large kitchen, dining, and dayroom spaces. These areas have direct access to an outdoor covered patio. There are two fire bunkrooms, each containing 4 beds and an EMS bunkroom with 2 beds.
