Charlotte Douglas International Airport

The ARFF will be constructed on airport property just off a main taxiway between two major runways. While the site is ideal for response time, the location requires the building and site planning to conform to rigorous FAA & Federal Guidelines. Since the facility will house National Guard staff, the design must also adhere to Federal Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection requirements. One of the new federal guidelines states that this facility must be designed to comply with the USGBC LEED Standards. The current design is tracking to achieve LEED Silver. Some of the sustainable features include natural daylighting, high efficiency HVAC and lighting, and a solar hot water system. The building will consist of five double -loaded apparatus bays, administrative offices, dayroom, kitchen, and sleeping quarters for us to eighteen crewmen. The Facility will also house training activities for weekend operations for the National Guard.
